TB-500 research hasn't proved healing in people
The best results came from animals or cells in a dish. Most studies used whole thymosin beta-4, not TB-500.
A 1:1 lab match doesn't prove human healing
What did the closest lab look show? It showed how whole thymosin beta-4 joins actin, not how a person heals.
The X-ray showed detail just 2 ten-billionths of a meter wide. Each whole protein joined one loose actin part, a 1:1 match [1].
Scientists used 1 extra protein part to hold actin still. Actin helps cells keep their shape and move.
The close view showed where the two proteins touch. It didn't show pain falling or a wound closing.
TB-500 copies the small thymosin beta-4 part used at that join. Yet the X-ray test used the whole protein.
TB-500 may act differently on its own [13]. That's a sound warning, not a proved human benefit.
Thymosin Beta-4 is the whole protein used in most claims
What is behind most TB-500 claims? It's a whole protein called thymosin beta-4.
The protein has many linked parts and appears throughout your body [5]. It weighs about 4,963 daltons, a lab scale for things too small to see.
Some blood and immune cells release the protein after harm. The protein can join actin and may help cells move.
A 2012 review found less scar tissue and fewer dead cells in lab work [5]. The same review found signs of less swelling and more new blood vessels.
Those thymosin beta-4 clues led to human tests for skin, eyes, hearts, and brains. An early study finding still isn't a cure.
A 2021 paper found that the body may release the whole protein during exercise [15]. Sellers stretched that finding to the short piece without equal proof.

Rat wounds improved, while pig hearts did not
What were the strongest thymosin beta-4 repair results? Rat wounds improved, but heart findings split across animals.
In mice, thymosin beta-4 helped heart cells live after blood flow stopped [2]. In pigs, thymosin beta-4 didn't lessen the heart damage.
Neither heart study tested a person. That miss belongs beside the hopeful mouse result.
Rat wounds gave a clearer hopeful sign. New skin grew 42% more by 4 days and up to 61% more by 7 days.
The wounds also pulled closed by at least 11% on day 7. In a dish, 10 trillionths of a gram helped skin cells move [3].
The dish result didn't show a person's wound closing. Other dish work found more new blood vessels with thymosin beta-4 [10].
Cells given thymosin beta-4 also released substances that can clear damaged tissue [11]. That change may aid repair, but it didn't prove a person healed.
A rat thymosin beta-4 heart study found some protection after blood flow stopped [13]. All these tests had 1 limit: no person received TB-500.
The short piece hasn't been shown to help a human heart
Mouse heart cells lived better after an artery was tied off [2]. Pig hearts didn't show less harm.
No sound human study shows that TB-500 helps the heart. Mixed animal findings can't support a promise.
new blood vessels may help a wound and may help a tumor
The whole protein helped blood-vessel cells move in a dish [10]. That result brings 1 clear concern.
A wound may need new vessels, but tumors use them too. No study has cleared the short piece of that concern.
Rat stroke gains were uneven, and no person was tested
What happened after strokes in rats? Smaller amounts helped, while the largest did not.
Male rats got whole thymosin beta-4 24 hours after a stroke. Separate groups got 2, 12, or 18 milligrams for each kilogram of body weight.
They then got four more doses every 3 days. The groups given 2 and 12 milligrams for each kilogram did better from day 14 to day 56.
The group given 18 milligrams for each kilogram did not improve [4]. A math estimate put the best amount near 3.75 milligrams for each kilogram.
That estimate wasn't a human test. More thymosin beta-4 didn't work better in the rats.
TB-500 hasn't been shown to protect a human brain
The rat study found gains at 2 and 12 milligrams for each kilogram of body weight. It found no clear gain at 18 milligrams for each kilogram [4].
A math estimate put the best point near 3.75 milligrams for each kilogram. The rats received whole thymosin beta-4, not TB-500.
Less eye swelling appeared only in early work
The whole protein quieted one cause of swelling in eye tissue [12]. Other thymosin beta-4 tests in cells in a dish pointed the same way.
Neither finding shows that TB-500 eases your pain or swelling. The leap from cells to you is too large.
Hair claims still rest on work in rodents
In rodents, the whole protein helped cells near hair roots move and grow [5]. The work didn't show that TB-500 grows human hair.
Online before-and-after stories aren't a fair test. Hair claims remain unproved.
TB-500 Side Effects remain largely unknown
What harms can the short piece cause? Human studies haven't given a sound answer.
The main concern comes from the whole thymosin beta-4 protein. Several cancers, including pancreas and colon cancer, contain high amounts of thymosin beta-4 [13].
The protein can help cells move and new blood vessels grow. Those traits might also help a tumor.
Cancer is a fair concern, not a proved effect of the short piece
Several cancers contain high amounts of thymosin beta-4 in several cancers [13]. The whole protein has also been linked with cancer spread and new tumor vessels.
That doesn't prove TB-500 causes cancer in people. It gives your doctor a real reason for care.
Human side effects remain a large blank
Few people have been studied after taking the short piece. A research vial may also hold the wrong substance or be dirty [13].
Those gaps make any reaction hard to judge [13]. A 2026 review warns of serious possible harm and scant human proof [14].
One long study tested a claim tied to TB-500. Mice got 150 millionths of a gram of whole thymosin beta-4 twice a week for 6 months [9].
The mice grew more new muscle fibers. They didn't gain strength or better heart action.
Scar tissue in their hearts and muscles stayed high. A nicer view under a microscope didn't make a stronger mouse.
TB-500 and other repair products lack good human proof
TB-500 and BPC-157 come from different sources
How do the two compare? TB-500 copies one part of thymosin beta-4 [5].
BPC-157 is a different lab-made piece based on a substance found in stomach juice. A 2026 review says neither has approval for muscle or joint injuries [14].
Animal results can't tell us which product is better
A 2026 review found hopeful repair signs in animals given thymosin beta-4 [14]. It also found little good human safety work and room for serious harm.
Research vials often haven't passed the checks required for approved drugs. TB-500 belongs in that uncertain group.
Human trials used the whole protein instead of TB-500
No completed fair human trial has tested TB-500 [13]. A Phase 1 study, the first small safety check, gave the whole protein to healthy people [6].
That study used a placebo, a look-alike treatment with no drug. Eye trials used RGN-259, a study name for whole thymosin beta-4, not TB-500.
